The 7 Cs of Communication [ with examples]

Key Facts                                                                                           

  • Conveying message: Message can be transmitted to the target audience through message in difficult ways.
  • In policy formulation: For formulating the policies management have to collect essential information form deferent sources through communication.
  • In decision Making: Managers need useful information in time to make proper decision. That means without sound communication system useful information can not be provided timely.
  • In direction: Communication helps in contributing instruction to the subordinates to achieve their assigned duties & responsibilities.

Communication is the process of exchanging information form one to another people & in the process of sharing information several functions are to be performed. 


According to the 7 Cs, communication needs to be:


  • Clarity
  • Completeness
  • Conciseness
  • Concreteness
  • Courtesy
  • Correctness
  • Consideration
7C's of communication


1. Clarity: Communicated the message clearly and concisely. For classify the following guidelines can be followed. 
->>>Select short, familiar & easy word.
->>>Avoid ambiguous & jargons words.

2. Completeness: The sender must-send a complete message that means the message should be organized in such away that the receiver can understand its meaning easily. Here the sender of message must be aware of 5 W's ie.
(i) Who is the receiver?
(ii) What does message contain?
(iii) Where the receiver is to be reached? 
(iv) When the receiver is to be reached? 
(v) Why is the sender sending the message?

3. Conciseness: A message should be as concise as possible. That means message should be completed in the fewest possible words so that it can save time for both sender & receiver. That's why avoid repetition, including only relevant facts are necessary.

4. Concreteness: Concreteness means being specific, definite & vivid rather than vague & general. The following guidelines can help to write concrete message: Using specific facts & figures Using action verb Select vivid; lively & handsome word.

5. Courtesy: Sender should follow minimum level of courtesy for the receiver which to strengthen business friendship. There is a popular proverb "Courtesy Cost Nothing but wins everything." That's why sender are to be sincere, tactful, & appreciating & he/she are to apology sincerely for any mistake.


6. Correctness: Grammatically correct and punctuation & spelling .Check accuracy of figures, facts & words.

7. Consideration: Keeping consider the Audience's needs and interests when communicating. Here mainly you view point are to be followed instead of we view point.

Conclusion: From the above discussion we can conclude in in order to effective communication. Communicator/sender must keep these seven principles in mind to make communication successful.
